TAIPEI (Taiwan News) Taiwan is currently discussing travel bubbles with five countries, Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said Wednesday (March 10).
During a question-and-answer session at the Legislative Yuan, Lin revealed that the Tourism Bureau has been in talks with Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam since late last year about setting up bilateral travel corridors with a shortened quarantine. Of these four countries, Singapore has had the most success containing the pandemic and is pursuing the proposal the most actively, he said. ....

The Taiwan Railways Administration has seen a bump in passenger numbers for its daily round-trip service on its South Link line since November, as many rail fans wanted to ride the diesel-powered trains before they are pulled from service on Dec. 23.
The daily service between Fangliao Station in Pingtung County and Taitung Station in Taitung County, which takes just over two hours each way, departs Fangliao before noon and makes the return trip at 4:15 p.m.
The service gained attention because it is the only one using nearly 50-year-old carriages that have never been fitted with air conditioning and because of the coastal and rural views it offers across southern Taiwan. ....

Taipei, Dec. 20 (CNA) Electric trains begin running on South Link line Sunday, allowing them to completely circle Taiwan, after the project to electrify the line in southern Taiwan connecting Taitung and Pingtung counties was completed recently.
The 98.2-kilometer line between Taitung Station and Fangliao Station in Pingtung had been the last in Taiwan to be served by diesel locomotives, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) said Sunday.
Taking the first electric train on the route Sunday morning, Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said the use of electric trains will allow trips between Kaohsiung and Taitung to take 90 minutes as opposed to two hours previously. ....

Taipei, Dec. 14 (CNA) China Airlines (CAL), one of Taiwan s two major carriers, unveiled on Monday a newly delivered Boeing 777 cargo jet, which highlights the image of Taiwan on its fuselage.
The shape of Taiwan is integrated into the first capital letter of the word cargo on the new plane s fuselage, while the company s English designation is written close to the tail in a much smaller size than it is on other aircraft in the carrier s fleet.
The new appearance meets the requirements that Transport Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) had sought before CAL took delivery of the plane on Dec. 1. At that time, he said the design would make room for more Taiwan-related features to clearly differentiate the country from China. ....
