.- Some of the earliest recognized works by Yayoi Kusama – which have never been exhibited in public – will be offered in a special single-owner collection sale at Bonhams New York on Wednesday, May 12. The sale, Kusama: The Collection of the late Dr Teruo Hirose, comprises three paintings and eight works on paper, gifted by Kusuma herself to Dr Hirose, her lifelong friend and doctor whom she consulted in her early years in New York in the 1960s, when she was a struggling young artist in need of medical aid. ....

Untitled, is a very early example of Kusama combining vibrant colours and the scale of the work lends an immersive quality, something that foreshadows the artist s later work such as her

.- On Monday, February 22, 2021, Bonhams Prints & Multiples will hold a Geometric Abstraction Auction in New York, highlighted by the sale of Rojo y Negro, (Red and Black), 1993, Carmen Herrera’s first known print published in the United States.
As a Latin American female artist in the New York art world, Herrera was subject to discrimination for decades. Despite living in the city and actively working as an artist since the 1950s, she didn’t sell her first artwork until 2004, at age 89. As a result of widely accepted discriminatory practices within the industry, Herrera’s print output is quite limited.
