The 1911 pistol is one of Timmy Oh’s favorite guns.
Oh has experimented on firearms since he was a teenager, looking for ways to make them safer, and he said he was drawn to how the 1911′s “beautiful” design once changed the industry. When the gun was introduced more than a century ago, its improved durability made it a U.S. military mainstay. ....

WATCH: Off-duty Correctional Officer catches a bridge jumper
Police officers are always on duty. Even in their downtime when the uniform is hung up after the shift, they don t let their guard down. This was certainly the case for today s #BlueFriday honoree, Corrections Officer Faustino Saucedo.
It was a Sunday afternoon and Officer Saucedo had left his home to drive to pick up his wife. His situational awareness in high gear always, he noticed a man on the side of a bridge. Acting immediately, he pulled over, parked and approached the scene. The officer s decision was the difference between life and death. ....

Lawmakers in the state s Democratically-controlled chambers have introduced a bill that would allow non-profit violence interruption groups to access a federally-funded resource to help expand its programming.
The bill sponsored by Brooklyn state Senator Zellnor Myrie would allow these programs, including the Cure Violence program where reformed gang members are hired to defuse tensions between gangs before violence erupts to access a portion of the federally-allocated funds through the state Office of Victims Services.
