The housing issue in Boston is the top concern for voters in this year’s mayoral election, according to a recent poll.The new Suffolk University/Boston Globe poll shows that 20% of participants had housing as their top issue in Boston’s mayoral race, followed by racism/equality (19.2%), schools (17.8%), the economy (14%) and crime (11.2%).The poll also shows that nearly half of voters want city officials to focus on affordable housing, even if it means there would be fewer homes available in Boston.With this in mind, the candidates for mayor of Boston are weighing in on the city’s housing issue.Boston Mayor Kim Janey who was sworn into office on March 24, a day after former Mayor Marty Walsh was sworn in as the U.S. Secretary of Labor – says it is important that homes in the city are affordable.“A lot of the development that has happened has focused on rentals, and so we need to make sure that much more of it is homeownership.
