We’re riding a tidal wave of books-landing-on-screens at the moment, and as we dive into summer reading season this Memorial Day weekend, here are some page-turners worth reading before (or after) you watch the adaptations.
I’ll start with a local hook: “Hamilton” mastermind

As we honor Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we can celebrate an increase in diversity in Massachusetts’ 192nd House of Representatives and new firsts for Asian Americans. As the largest ethnic demographic in the Legislature, Asian Americans have hit an all time high with eight members elected to the House. Mary Todd Lincoln, the president’s wife, signed the guestbook during the Civil War. So did Dr. Mary Walker, a Union physician who was the only woman to receive the Medal of Honor. George Arth, a Marine Corps bass player who was in the orchestra at Ford’s Theater the night President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, also signed. ....

Hamid Mohabbat did not dream of living in the United States. He was scared to leave his parents and friends in Iran early last year for life in an American college town.
“But this program was beyond what I imagined,” he said.
After four years of all-nighters spent poring over engineering textbooks, Mohabbat, 23, was accepted into a fully-funded doctoral program at the University of Notre Dame. This was an opportunity worthy of homesickness. Mohabbat’s heart soared as he imagined returning to Tehran with a PhD. ....
