Some roads closed, more than 5,000 households without power in Princeton region as a result of Saturday storm

More than 5,000 households were without power in the Princeton region on Saturday evening due to the thunderstorm.
As of 10 p.m., more than 2,400 PSE&G customers in Princeton were without power, more than 2,200 PSE&G customers in Lawrence were without power, more than 1,100 customers in South Brunswick were without power, and more than 900 customers in Hamilton were without power. About 165 customers in Trenton were affected, and a few dozen customers in Ewing and Pennington also lost power. Power is expected to be restored late Saturday night or early Sunday.
The storm brought down trees, utility poles, and power lines, causing numerous road closures across the region. In Princeton, Mercer Street is closed at Lovers Lane until further notice due to a downed tree. Police said to avoid the area and use Route 206 instead. Quaker Road is closed until further notice due to a downed tree blocking the road. Mercer Street is closed near Quaker Road and traffic is being diverted ....

The Lawrence Township Planning Board approved a four-month extension to Oct. 15 for final site plan approval for the fitness center, which was granted to Lawrence Shopping Center Associates LLC in September 2018.
The resolution, which was approved by the Lawrence Township Planning Board at its June 21 meeting, states that “the applicant has been unable to begin construction on the LA Fitness Center as a result of delays due to the declared state and local emergency arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.” ....

Lawrence Township’s first post-COVID 19 Memorial Day parade’s participants and spectators had to take a rain check, after township officials called off the parade because of poor weather on May 29.
The parade, which township officials hoped would restore a sense of normalcy, was slated to kick off at 10 a.m. from the Lawrence High School parking lot. It would have followed its traditional route on Princeton Pike to Darrah Lane, Birchwood Knoll and onto Oaklyn Terrace and into Veterans Park for a short ceremony.
However, the rain did not stop Mayor James Kownacki and Township Council members Christopher Bobbitt, Cathleen Lewis, Michael Powers – accompanied by American Legion Post 414 Commander Charles Brothers – from placing remembrance wreaths at the memorials at Veterans Park and the Lawrence Township Municipal Building. ....

The Memorial Day Parade in Lawrence Township is ON for 2021, according to the Lawrence Township Recreation Department.
The parade will be Saturday, May 29th at 10am. The town is currently looking for participants. A recent Facebook post read: The Lawrence Township Patriotic Committee and Lawrence Township Recreation Department are looking for Veterans, Current Service Men and Women, Non-Profit Community Groups, Marching Bands, and Vehicles (Classic, Antique, Military).
Hooray for a sense of normalcy, although, the town is assuring everyone that proper CDC guidelines will be followed.
