(Contributed photo) WELLSBURG Since the pandemic reached northern West Virginia earlier this year, the Brooke County Ambulance Service has been among many first responders and healthcare workers putting in additional hours and extra effort to treat those diagnosed with COVID-19 and take measures to prevent its spread. And a few have gone one step further, delivering care packages to residents who have been quarantined on their own time and with help from the community. ....

WELLSBURG The Brooke County Commission has accepted a bid for repairs to a slip along the Brooke County Pioneer Trail. The bid, in the amount of $334,365 from Ohio-West Virginia Excavating of Shadyside, Ohio, was recommended by Thrasher Engineering, and approved by the commission during its meeting Tuesday. The Clarksburg firm has designed plans for the slip repair, which is being funded with $2.2 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency because the slip has been linked to flooding from the adjacent hillside. ....

The Brooke County Commission, on Tuesday, authorized the board to pursue the move, which is pending approval by the commissioners of the other local counties that financially support it. The Brooke County Commission provides $30,000 to the board, which oversees criminal offenders sentenced to home confinement, community service and local day report centers. In many cases, those individuals are ordered by courts to undergo periodic drug testing at the day report centers, including one in Weirton. ....
