Newcomers fall short in Town Election

Voters ultimately favored familiar faces in the May 4 Town Election. 
Alan Slavin was reelected to his seat on the Board of Selectmen by 40 percent of voters. Write-in candidate Tricia Wurtz earned 33 percent of the vote, while Finance Committee Member Glenn Lawrence earned 26 percent. Two percent of voters left that question blank.
Apryl Rossi and Geoff Swett were elected to seats on the School Committee, receiving 25 and 26 percent of the vote, respectively. Newcomer Brennan McKiernan earned 18 percent of votes, while Ron Besse earned 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent of voters left the question blank.
Just under 7 percent of registered voters participated in the election, which included five other uncontested races. ....

Candidate profile: Brennan McKiernan for School Committee


Brennan McKiernan grew up in Wareham, and said he cares deeply about the town and the schools. If elected, he hopes to strengthen the community as a whole, and get kids invested in their education and in the town.
McKiernan said that many of his favorite memories from his childhood are tied to the close-knit community in Wareham: His grandparents telling stories about the people they grew up with, big festivals that brought people together, and the success of Wareham students involved with DECA, the Knowledge Bowl Team and sports.
He said that while the community is still strong, people aren’t always as involved as they could be. The record turnout at the April 10 meeting, at which the Notos Group’s proposed Hospitality, Recreation and Entertainment District was defeated, is proof of that, McKiernan said. ....

Four on the ballot for two open School Committee seats

In the town-wide election May 4, incumbent School Committee member Apryl Rossi will battle it out alongside three other candidates for two open School Committee seats. 
Ronald Besse, Brennan McKiernan and Geoff Swett are also running for the seats. Voters will be asked to select two of the four choices. The two candidates who receive the highest number of votes will win the seats.
