Claiming COVID s over won t stop it
Ron DeSantis has declared the pandemic over and eliminated all precautions to prevent its spread, saying to anyone who advocates a safer course that You really are saying you don t believe in the vaccines, you don t believe in the data.
Here are the actual facts. Florida has been averaging 60 COVID deaths a day since March, many more than we had last October. Even more egregious, DeSantis has used his “emergency powers” to make it illegal for city and county officials to take any action to protect their citizens against the pandemic, such as requiring masks at massive political rallies like those he may be planning for a presidential campaign. ....

I read with total disgust the excellent article by Eric Rogers and Alessandro Marazzi Sassoon in the May 8 edition of FLORIDA TODAY. The actions of County Commission Chair Rita Pritchett at the May 4 commission meeting are mind-boggling. From the article, it is obvious that the other commissioners were confused, as was the county staff.
The item about halting the administration of fluoride at the county-run water treatment facility in North Brevard was not on the agenda. There was no opportunity for input by the public, and there was no expert scientific input. I mean, talk about railroading a commission vote. There is no scientific evidence that the amount of ....

Governor should govern, not campaign
I have been waiting since the end of the Florida Legislative session for the proverbial other shoe to drop. It was obvious the governor had a solution, but it was not clear as to what the problem was.
Well, anyone watching the news on Thursday got the rest of the story. Too many people of color voted in the last presidential election. We used all of the opportunities the Republicans fought so hard for years to put in place. We did early voting, we voted by mail (as did the immediate past president) and we showed up in record numbers on election day. What more could one ask for to ensure Florida had as perfect an election as anyone could want? ....

Anti-LGBT protesters picket Brevard School Board member's house

The homophobic protests that drew criticism at a March 9 Brevard Public School Board meeting arrived Thursday evening at the Satellite Beach home of board member Jennifer Jenkins.
Jenkins and her kindergarten-age daughter and husband were out of town when the protesters arrived, but learned of the display from neighbors and city officials.
The protesters held signs with slogans such as “two genders & one crazy-evil school board” and “LGBTQ agenda is ungodly,” along with some decrying mask mandates. Her neighbors told her the protesters approached them and called them “pedophile lovers.
Jenkins’ said the protesters told her father-in-law that they would be outside her home every night. ....
