Victorian Government driving innovation in healthcare with funding for world-leading Living Guidelines

Australian Living Evidence Consortium
The Australian Living Evidence Consortium (the Consortium) has welcomed the announcement that the Victorian Government will invest in the ‘Living Evidence’ model to transform the way new research is used to improve outcomes for patients in Victoria and around Australia.
Yesterday’s Victorian budget announcement included $4 million in funding for Living Evidence Phase Two, a four-year program to develop a world-leading, end-to-end evidence system to enable busy frontline clinicians to stay continually up-to-date with the latest research so they can provide the best possible care.
The Living Evidence model harnesses innovations in software, data systems, machine learning, citizen science and co-production to enable continual evidence surveillance and near real-time updating of high-quality systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines. ....

World's largest screening project to launch in Australia to prevent disabling strokes

World’s largest screening project to launch in Australia to prevent disabling strokes
HRI’s Professor Ben Freedman, Dr Nicole Lowres and Dr Katrina Giskes have received a significant Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) grant that is poised to transform Australia’s stroke-related healthcare.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common abnormal heart rhythm, causing one in three strokes that are often severe and largely preventable. AF prevalence rises with age, affecting about 10 per cent of people aged 70 and over, and increases their stroke risk by five times.
One in 10 people who experienced stroke were unaware they had AF at the time of stroke, as AF can be a silent condition that produces no symptoms. By detecting AF early with more intense electrocardiogram (ECG) screening, combined with treatment with oral anticoagulants, the risk of stoke can be reduced by 64 per cent. ....

(Natural News)
A study published in the journal
Environmental Health Perspectives shows that chemicals commonly found in plastics can increase diabetes risk. French and Australian researchers found that exposure to high levels of bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) is associated with a two times-higher risk of Type 2 diabetes.
Exposure to plastic chemicals increases diabetes risk
BPA is used in disposable water bottles, takeaway containers and toys, while BPS is commonly used as a substitute for BPA. Low-level exposure to these chemicals comes from eating food or drinking water stored in containers made of them. ....

The powerful lobby group representing clubs is investigating a digital wallet for poker machines as internal data from the NSW regulator reveals how players are using machines to wash dirty money.
