The University of Louisville s leadership publicly criticized alumnus Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for saying he doesn t see 1619 often seen as the start of American slavery as one of U.S. history s most important points.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. In a campus-wide email Thursday, University of Louisville leadership called alumnus Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell s comments on The 1619 Project from The New York Times Magazine troubling for American descendants of slaves, our allies and those who support us.
During a press conference at UofL Monday, McConnell said he would not consider 1619 the year Africans were first brought to America as slaves an important moment in the country s history. ....

The University of Louisville s leadership publicly criticized alumnus Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for saying he doesn t see 1619 often seen as the start of American slavery as one of U.S. history s most important points.
U of L s interim senior associate vice president for diversity and equity, Dr. V. Faye Jones, sent out a campuswide email Thursday in which she said McConnell s comments are quite troubling for American descendants of slaves, our allies and those who support us.  
To imply that slavery is not an important part of United States history not only fails to provide a true representation of the facts, but also denies the heritage, culture, resilience and survival of Black people in America, Jones said in the email.  ....

Staff senators receive updates on cybersecurity and the Employee Success Center

Staff Senators were joined by President Neeli Bendapudi during their virtual meeting Feb. 9. Senators received key findings from CPE, updates to campus VPN accessibility, and information about the Employee Success Center.
Bendapudi provided senators with updates and reminders about the COVID-19 vaccine. State government constraints limit the number of available vaccines, which restricts how quickly vaccines can be offered to the entire university community. Bendapudi further reminded senators that age will be the determining factor for when vaccines will be offered to employees. An email notification from UofL Health will alert those who are next in line to receive the vaccination. All staff, faculty and students were encouraged to take advantage of the vaccine when it is made available to them. ....

Darrell Griffith Returns as UofL Ambassador

LOUISVILLE, Ky. An All-American Cardinal has returned to Louisville: Cards legend Darrell Dr. Dunkenstein Griffith is now at UofL serving as a university ambassador.
Griffith will work with President Neeli Bendapudi to improve the university s profile and support its Cardinal Anti-Racism Agenda, according to a press release. Griffith started on Nov. 16, 2020.
“It feels so great to be working again with the university I love,” Griffith said. “I look forward to reconnecting with so many people in the community and working closely with President Bendapudi to continue to tell UofL’s story and to build relationships on campus and throughout the community.” ....
