An Oklahoma City minister used his sermon to the chamber to condemn Sen. Nathan Dahm’s (R-Broken Arrow) crude remark about Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a news release last week announcing he was trying to ban paper straws, Dahm implied Harris has used sex to become successful in politics.
The Rev. Dr. Lee Cooper of Prospect Baptist, who was serving as chaplain this week, said in a Thursday sermon for the chamber members should have said comments like Dahm s are not to be tolerated in the Senate. A few Senators left the chamber as Cooper spoke. ....

Senate Leader Won't Hold Vote On Bill Letting Lawmakers Declare Federal Actions Unconstitutional

The leader of the Oklahoma Senate said he is not on board with House Republicans’ push to let the legislature declare presidential executive orders and other federal actions unconstitutional.
The House suspended its own rules last week to take up and pass House Bill 1237, which says lawmakers have that power. Senate President Pro Tem Greg Treat said during his regular availability with reporters last week they did that because of influential groups outside the capitol pushing rhetoric online similar to Timothy McVeigh’s before the Oklahoma City bombing.
And that same type of hatred and fear, that the government is out to get you and the federal government is going to use the state as an instrument of their evil empire yes, the federal government has overreached, and I’m going to push back at every turn I can. But I’m not going to fuel people’s fears and make people paranoid to go out and live their life, Treat said. ....

Stitt Wants To Get Corporate Tax Elimination 'Across The Finish Line,' Senate Leader Still Opposed

A week after the leader of the Oklahoma Senate said his chamber and the Republican caucus would not be involved in a plan to eliminate the state’s corporate income tax, Gov. Kevin Stitt told a virtual round table he still wants it done this session.
Speaking to the Oklahoma Small Business Association on Friday, Stitt referred to a report by pro-business think tank the Tax Foundation that ranks Oklahoma 30th in business tax climate.
So, what they do is they rank corporate tax, individual income tax, sales tax, unemployment insurance tax, property tax. We’re 30th. Again, we should be top 10 in that, Stitt said. ....
