Tulsa-Area School Boards Approve Legal Action Against State Board Over Charter Funding Decision

Several Tulsa-area school boards voted Monday to let their districts attorneys challenge the State Board of Education s decision to give charter schools an equal share of state funding.
The state board voted 4–3 last month to settle a lawsuit with the Oklahoma Public Charter School Association claiming charter schools are due an equal share of state revenues. The board s resolution would let charter schools receive funding from state gross production, motor vehicle and rural electrification association tax collections, state school land earnings and county tax collections. Those revenues currently go to only traditional public schools.
Tulsa Public Schools joined the 2017 lawsuit as an intervenor, and the TPS Board voted Monday to let the district s attorneys file claims against the state board. ....

Oklahoma Senate Leader: Chamber Won't Be Part Of Push To Eliminate Corporate Income Tax

The leader of the Oklahoma Senate said the chamber, his caucus and he personally have no appetite to take up a plan House Republicans passed last month to eliminate the state’s corporate income tax.
House Bill 2083 would phase out the corporate income tax over five years through increasing deductions. Senate President Pro Tem Greg Treat (R-Oklahoma City) said there needs to be more than politics behind a move like that.
As a Republican, yes, we cut taxes. That’s a great political statement. We’ve got to get beyond the politics of it and see is it the right policy. And when you look at the corporate tax, it is an unstable source of revenue, there’s no doubt about it. But, about $90 million of it goes off the top into things like teacher retirement, Treat said. ....

The Oklahoma Legislature took action on a multitude of measures recently, from the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The following is a brief list of some of that legislation:

House Bill 1246 was signed into law by Gov. Kevin Stitt last week after it was passed out of the House and the Senate. The bill will allow Oklahomans to obtain prescriptions using Social Security numbers if they have a state-issued ID card that has been expired for no more than one year and if they possess no other form of ID. ....
