City of Madison faces lawsuit over police oversight board
Now, it’s the subject of a federal lawsuit against the City of Madison.
The lawsuit is brought by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL), a conservative legal firm. WILL is bringing the lawsuit on behalf of David Blaska, a local conservative blogger, former Dane County Board Supervisor, and former mayoral and school board candidate. Blaska, who is white, was not appointed to the oversight board but was one of about sixty applicants. He says certain rules establishing the membership of the board amounted to a racial quota.
“I can think of no other governmental body that bases membership based on race. And there’s a good reason for that. Even the city of Madison prohibits discrimination based on race. So the city is in violation of its own ordinance,” Blaska tells WORT. ....

After an insensitive assignment, asking students how they would “punish” a slave, teachers at a Wisconsin middle school were put on leave.
Parents of sixth graders at Patrick Marsh Middle School in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, took note of the assignment. According to reports, the assignment on ancient Mesopotamia read, “A slave stands before you. This slave has disrespected his master by telling him, ‘You are not my master!’ How will you punish this slave? ”
And even more alarming was the answer that read: According to Hammurabi’s Code: Put to death.
Sun Prairie Area School District sent parents statements assuring them that they were investigating the incident. “We deeply regret that this lesson took place, and we also recognize that this was a breakdown in our curricular processes and our district-wide focus on equity. A school in Wisconsin has put teachers on administrative leave after a racially insensitive lesson on slavery.
Teachers at a Wisconsin middle school have been placed on administrative leave after an unapproved lesson about slavery upset families.
Sixth graders at Patrick Marsh Middle School in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, received an assignment about ancient Mesopotamia that asked a question about how a slave should be treated, the school s principals said in a letter to students on Monday.
A slave stands before you. This slave has disrespected his master by telling him You are not my master! How will you punish this slave? the assignment read, according to a parent who shared a photo on her Facebook page. ....
