Why New Zealand businesses should look to India for new opportunities

The country has been on my mind quite a lot in the past 18 months: from my last overseas trip to the country in February 2020 as part of a business delegation accompanying a ministerial mission, to the announcement earlier this month that flights from India would be suspended.
India has been on a lot of other minds as well. Many of New Zealand’s international partners have been investing heavily in a broad relationship with the country, recognising its strategic importance.
Whenever you look at India’s economic and demographic statistics, they’re startling. India has a million young people entering its working age population every month; an economy the same size as China’s was in 2004; and it is on track to be the most populated country in a matter of years. ....

OPINION:
One of the main reasons why Labour Party MP Paul Eagle entered politics was to change the Adoption Act 1955. While practices have advanced, the legislation continues to undermine and discriminate against all parties,
but particularly the child in question. This could all change under the Labour Government.
Adoption is a personal issue for Paul Eagle. The Rongotai MP was adopted in 1972 by Brian and Judith Eagle; he was handed over to his new parents fresh out of the womb, with no information about his birth parents or their health history. ....

There was triumphant news as well as sad news in Christchurch in 1974.
“A minor miracle, a dream come true; the opening of the ceremony for the 1974 Commonwealth Games was a triumph for its organisers, and all who took part in it,”
The Press wrote on January 25.

Dover Samuels has absolutely no doubt that the adoption of Māori wards by local councils would benefit all New Zealanders beyond measure. And he had devoted many years of his life, as a Labour politician, a Cabinet member and a Northland Regional councillor, working towards establishing the effective working relationship that Māori wards promised, not least in terms of environmental issues such as protecting water, on land, in rivers and the sea, within the broad government framework. ....

The rural town with some of the country's largest street art

JOHN BISSET/STUFF
Waimate artist Bill Scott has started work on his newest mural in the town - this time on four large concrete silos (video first published March 14, 2018).
One man’s passion for his town has led him to get specially painted images put onto 35-metre grain silos in his company’s transport yard.
Barry Sadler’s visual record of local heroes and their achievements is a special drawcard in the small inland South Canterbury town of Waimate.
