Letter to the Editor: Far too many people
I AM sure the views of Save the Earth, Save the World, Extinction Rebellion, and other climate/control experts are well intentioned.
But as the world use up resources, cut down forests, build more power stations, factories, cars, trains, planes, use tons of plastic, the experts and groups will not mention or address the heart of the problem – far too many people.
Until World Governments try to halt the population explosion all the tinkering and self-sacrifice will be of no avail. ....

Cultish eco-nuts are letting down environmentalism

When did environmentalists become so boring and sinister?
9 May 2021 • 11:00am
When I was a child watching Dad’s Army, I used to look at the characters and evaluate what it might be like to be married to each of them. (I was a precocious only child - don’t judge.) Spivvy Private Walker was obviously the most exciting - but Sergeant Wilson was so suave. In the second division, Private Pike was cute but wet and Lance Corporal Jones could give out extra rations. Scraping the bottom of the barrel, Private Godfrey reminded me of the grandad I’d never had. It was Private Fraser, though, who always came very last on my list of lust. The dour Scottish under-taker with this cries of “We’re doomed!” and “A terrible way to die!” disturbed me in a way my childish mind couldn’t quite define. Who would have thought that the creepy Private would one day become the role model for environmentalists - a group which once seemed so fresh and funky? ....

PMQs Sketch: In praise of Ian Blackford - long-winded and over-the-top, but as crafty as any Brexiteer

PMQs Sketch: In praise of Ian Blackford - long-winded and over-the-top, but as crafty as any Brexiteer
Joe Murphy
Inexplicably, some Tory MPs curl their lips at the weekly performances of Ian Blackford, Westminster leader of the Scottish National Party.  True, he does ham it up something rotten, swerving from disgusted whisper to full blown button-popping outrage in the snap of a sporran. Yes, he does tend to go on a bit too long, heaping up huge, trembling verbal spoil heaps from the Caledonian cliché mines.
But Blackford is actually very good at what he does.  Behind those OTT theatrics is a cunning political brain that can mince complicated arguments down to fist-sized soundbites. A bit like Boris Johnson’s, you might say. He can be brutal, calling Theresa May a liar when she was PM. He is also a gifted opportunist who memorable called out Johnson for “playing on his phone” during one of his elongated speeches instead of “listening to Sco ....

Denzil McDaniel: What sort of damage are we doing to a whole generation?

One of the most joyful noises I’ve heard for a while was the sound of my wee grand-daughter Eva giggling as we played in the heavy snow on Saturday afternoon.
I posted a photo on Facebook of her, me and an odd-shaped snowman, and judging by the “likes” and comments, many people shared in our simple pleasure.
Accompanying the pic, I’d deliberately written “Kids are happy outdoors.”
The pandemic lockdown, it seems to me, is imposing shocking restrictions on our children right through the various ages to an extent that is building up serious problems for the well-being of a whole generation, now and in the future. ....
