DAERA have announced exciting new plans for higher education in horticulture and apossibly for veterinary medicine.
They have commissioned an analysis of option is to deliver a more secure long term supply of vets for Northern Ireland including looking at providing third level veterinary education.
Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots commented: “I have been concerned for some time that Northern Ireland may not attract sufficient veterinary surgeons to meet the needs of the local agri-food industry in the future, and I have been keen that my Department continues to explore options for a more secure supply of vets for Northern Ireland on a longer term basis. ....

Some unionists felt they should have gone to Coleraine - reopening the university which dates back to the 1960s.
In 1965, the Lockwood report recommended Northern Ireland s second university be located in Coleraine rather than Derry. In a speech in Parliament, SDLP MP Gerry Fitt remarked: The only consideration which activated the minds of the unionist powers . was that two-thirds of the population of Londonderry were Catholics. They sited the university in the heart of Coleraine . [a] unionist-dominated area.

The Vice Chancellor at Ulster University (UU) has told Derry councillors that under the current funding model it will not be possible to deliver the long-promised target of 10,000 students at the Magee campus.
This week UU confirmed that the School of Health Sciences undergraduate programmes will relocate to its Magee campus in Derry from September 2022. 
The transfer will bring over 800 undergraduate students to the Magee campus. ....
