PN govt should reconvene Parliament by August, say politicians and analysts
Parliament of Malaysia.
PETALING JAYA: It is only right that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government takes heed of views that were presented by the King and the Rulers Council and reconvene Parliament as soon as possible, political analysts and politicians say.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) geostrategist Prof Dr Azmi Hassan said the King and the other Rulers have spoken, and the government needs to listen.
He said it is very clear the Rulers are aware of how the public views the present emergency and want the government and the Opposition to work together to overcome the huge problems faced by the nation. ....

PETALING JAYA
: Umno’s decision not to push for early elections and to remain in Perikatan Nasional (PN) for now is a step towards self-preservation, say political analysts.
The party understands that pushing for early polls in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic could cost it votes.
“This was obviously the case in the Sabah state elections in September last year,” Malaysian Council of Professors senior fellow Dr Jeniri Amir told
theSun yesterday.
During the height of the power tussle in Sabah last year, sitting chief minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal decided to call for snap state elections, only to lose power. The polls caused a surge in infections that eventually spread across the country. ....

Nation has never been so divided: Don

PETALING JAYA: Unity in Malaysia has reached its lowest ever point and analysts agree that the causes of such a significant decline are politics and the National Economic Policy (NEP).
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia geostrategist Prof Dr Azmi Hassan said toxic politics has divided the people not only along racial lines but also in ideology.
“These factors have not only torn the different races apart, but also caused splits among people within the same racial group.
“For instance, Malays are no longer united because many have different political ideologies and belong to various political parties,” Azmi told
theSun.
He was commenting on a report that a secondary school in Johor had set conditions for co-curricular activities based on race. ....

KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his PKR counterpart Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should relinquish their party positions to younger leaders who can rejuvenate Malaysian politics, two pundits said.
Kartini Aboo Talib @ Khalid from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Prof Dr Azmi Hassan from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) shared the same observation of discontent swelling within the ranks of Umno and PKR after a leaked audio conversation that though disputed, suggests Zahid and Anwar to be in a political conspiracy at odds with their disparate party ideologies. ....
