Tynwald s armed forces champion is urging government not to waste time granting war memorials registered status.
Ten monuments honouring Islanders who lost their lives in combat have been submitted for the Protected Buildings Register.
That would prevent them from being demolished or altered unless receiving special written consent.

An 18th century building which housed a famous armed schooner has been put forward for registered status.
It means the Nautical Museum in Castletown would be protected from demolition if the application is approved.
The boathouse was the original home of the Peggy, a yacht built for prominent Manx politician and banker George Quayle.
Manx National Heritage is currently the custodian of the Nautical Museum, which dates from 1789 and was initially constructed as a boathouse, dock and stable dock.
However, since 1950, it has been used as a museum with the Peggy featuring as its main attraction. ....

Manx National Heritage has welcomed proposals to include a number of buildings and war memorials on the Isle of Man’s Protected Buildings Register.
The Isle of Man’s Protected Buildings Register marks and celebrates the special architectural and historic significance of a building, and brings it under the consideration of the planning system, so that it can be protected for future generations.
The oldest roofed building on the register is the Old Grammar School. Owned by Manx National Heritage, the building was built around 1200AD as the first town church in Castletown. ....

Cosy Nook and Trafalgar House saved from demolition

Two well-known buildings have been issued with Building Preservation Notices (BPN) to temporarily protect their future.
The government issued the notices on the Cosy Nook, Shore Road, Port Erin and Trafalgar House, South Quay in Douglas on Tuesday.
Port Erin Commissioners recently voted to demolish the Cosy Nook, which is the subject of a planning application to demolish and replace the building with a new facility.
Concerns have also been raised that Trafalgar House, which is thought to be around 200 years old, is at risk from damage due to its proximity to nearby demolition works. ....

Government is stepping into protect the Cosy Nook and Trafalgar House from demolition.
The two well-known buildings have been issued with Building Preservation Notices (BPN) to temporarily protect their future.
The notices don t mean the buildings will be registered but they do allow time for further investigations to be carried out, so they can be considered for entry to the Protected Buildings Register in 2021.
