HAVING lived in Richmond for several years and Richmondshire for many years before that, I’ve recently become very concerned with the rise in anti-social behaviour in Richmond and the lack of response from the authorities.
This seems to be the result of the crowds flocking to the falls after its promotion as the “Ibiza of the North”.
Word seems to have got out that this kind of behaviour is accepted in Richmond and it has attracted a very unsavoury element. There are regular gatherings of youths on the river bank indulging in underage drinking, smoking and drug taking. They are then rowdy and aggressive in the protection of their “turf”. ....

Community land transfer proposal for Brompton recreation ground sparks dispute

A PARISH council has come under fire for rejecting a gift of recreational land to the community worth up to £20,000.
However the authority has hit back, saying councillors did not believe the move was the best course of action for the community.
Resident Robert Carter said Brompton Parish Council turned down the opportunity to gain the asset for the village at a recent meeting.
The asset in question is a two and a half acre piece of ground owned by Hambleton District Council (HDC), which is leased to Brompton Parish Council, who in turn sub-lease it to Brompton Recreation Group. It is part of the main recreation land in the village, where a pavilion and sports pitches have been built over the years. ....

WITH regard to the article on page 2 of last week’s Darlington and Stockton Times “Search for funding to replace village bridge” I would like to take this opportunity to update residents of Brompton and users of the village green at Water End, Brompton about the footway bridge closure.
A flood risk assessment is currently taking place and the town council will shortly be submitting a planning application for a new bridge.
Residents will be consulted on the new bridge through to the normal planning process.
The new bridge however will be different in appearance from the existing bridge due to health and safety and other modern requirements but will be sympathetic to the surroundings. ....
