Lenawee County remains COVID hotspot

Lenawee County remains a hotspot for a “rolling thunder” of COVID infections and the region continues to rank among the highest areas in the country for new cases, an infectious specialist said.
Dr. Joel Kammeyer, an infectious disease specialist at ProMedica and the University of Toledo, said regional hospitals, including ProMedica Hickman Hospital, are near capacity and intensive care units are filled at similar rates seen during the height of the pandemic.
“We are the hotspot,” he said. “We need to buckle down.”
ProMedica Hickman Hospital in Adrian is at 85% bed capacity across all units. About 40% of its inpatient beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients. ....

Lenawee County officials warn rising COVID-19 case rate as bad as ever

ADRIAN Lenawee County officials warned Friday afternoon that the current COVID-19 surge is as bad as previous surges and hospitalizations are growing.
The current surge in new cases is similar to that seen during the winter months. According to a news release from the county government, if COVID-19 spread continues in our community at its current rate, it is projected that by the end of April, we will surpass the number of new COVID-19 cases seen during previous surges.
The positivity rate for tests is at 16.4%, which is the highest rate seen since the beginning of the pandemic, the release said. Fifty percent of patients at ProMedica Hickman Hospital are positive for COVID-19 and the critical care unit 89% full. ....
