Wicked Local PLYMOUTH – If all goes as hoped, the town could get a lot of roadside attention this summer. Up to 20 billboards could show up on the state’s highways and byways to let travelers know that Plymouth’s 400th anniversary commemoration is alive and well. A consortium of local organizations has applied for $150,000 funding from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism to pay for the road signs. In addition, numerous businesses have agreed to donate money for the unified effort, dubbed “400 Years – My Local Plymouth.” “If we receive it, this marketing grant will add much-needed funds to help us recover after the devastating loss of our 400th anniversary year,” said Lea Filson, president and CEO of See Plymouth, one of the sponsoring groups. “Our campaign will build on the already successful ‘My Local MA ‘campaign and promote Plymouth’s extended 400th anniversary through Thanksgiving.” ....

Residents and visitors will be able to get exclusive menu items and promotional meals, including special offers priced at $20.21, from participating restaurants, bakeries, breweries and wineries March 19 to 26. Formerly called Restaurant Week, the promotion put together by the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce lets foodies enjoy good eats while helping food establishments build sales during the winter season. Best of all, it’s free. Well, free to the food businesses that want to participate. It will still cost diners to get the deals. “They don’t have to be members either,” said Bob Nolet, director of operations at the Plymouth Area Chamber. “Any area food establishment can take part in Local Eats. This is a very difficult time of the year for these businesses, especially with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, so we want to include as many as we can.” ....
Offseason or not, Plymouth has always been one of my favorite places to go and take a waterfront walk. There s always something going on, no matter the season, and, whether it s summer or winter, the views are lovely. We hopped in the car on a recent cold-ish but sunny day, to go and get some refreshing winter air. One of the conveniences of Plymouth is also how easy it is to get there. I always just take 44 from Middleboro (the rotary now being the trickiest part; I miss the single lanes). Plug in my old iPod Classic it is 14 years old and counting and follow that one lane almost the whole way. I ve had a fair bit of driving anxiety during this pandemic, since I m not really on the road all that much now, but this drive s still a piece of cake. ....
Wicked Local PLYMOUTH – If the one-way traffic flow is going to return to the downtown again this summer, it will be with some modifications. The Select Board is considering if and how that might happen in 2021 following a presentation by the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce and local businesses. Chamber Executive Director Amy Naples told the board Tuesday the Plymouth Recovery Task Force is working on plans to implement the one-way traffic pattern in downtown Plymouth for the coming summer season. She said 13 restaurants and retailers had already indicated they would like to participate in the program again this year. ....
Plymouth wraps up multi-year beautification project PLYMOUTH – New signs designating the boundary of the town’s cultural district mark the completion of a three-year project to spruce up downtown. The Public Art Initiative, started in 2017, saw the completion of colorful murals, artistic furniture and historic public portraits of Plymouth’s rich past – all within a short walk of the center of town. Festive and playful murals now grace walls that were once the target of vandals, and decorative benches, chairs and tables invite visitors and locals alike to sit down and enjoy their surroundings. The town coordinated the project with the Plymouth Bay Cultural District and the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce. Private donations through a crowd funding platform raised $13,000, which MassDevelopment matched to make the work possible. ....
