Missing man found dead in Mt. Pleasant

A man reported missing for more than a month was found deceased on a property off of a rural road near Mt. Pleasant on Monday, Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland said.
The man, identified as 70-year-old Billy W. Braden, had not been seen or heard from since Jan. 17.
The sheriff said Braden s remains have been sent to the state medical examiner s office after being located on Monday. Braden appeared to have been deceased for an extended period of time before his remains were located, Rowland said.
“Early preliminary findings will likely show that he died from natural causes,” he said. “There does not appear to be any type of foul play. ....

Responders offer relief to Maury County residents stranded by snow

With many Maury County residents stuck at home due to dangerous road conditions from a wave of winter weather, local authorities are offering a helping hand to those in need of assistance.
Both Columbia Fire & Rescue Chief Ty Cobb and Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland said the region s local departments are offering emergency support to residents stranded at home.
Departments are reaching out a helping hand to the public, especially elderly members of the community with goal of helping fill medical prescriptions and delivering groceries to those running out of food.
The Columbia Police Department is also offering assistance. ....

Maury County considers pay increase for sheriff's department staff

The Maury County Commission is considering an increase in pay for deputies and correctional officers at the county sheriff’s department.
During his tenure, Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland has repeatedly requested an increase to counteract the loss of patrol deputies and corrections personnel to neighboring communities that offer higher pay.
“The grades should be raised now,” Rowland told the county’s administration committee. “Now is not the time to step away from this. This is by far the biggest need and where we need to stop this hemorrhaging of losing high quality individuals.”
If his proposal is approved by the full commission, Rowland said the increase would be “a huge step in the right direction.” ....

Maury County accepts additional relief funding for COVID-19

Maury County government will receive more than $30,000 in public assistance funding to relieve financial burdens caused by COVID-19.
Commissioners unanimously accepted the funding resolution during the board’s monthly meeting on Tuesday.
The county will receive an additional  $30,274 from a state and federal grant to provide local relief during the pandemic.
The funds provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and will support “small projects” within the local government.
Maury County Commission Chair Don Morrow said the additional funds can be used by the county as it sees fit. ....
