HOWLAND Township residents who are getting electric service from Niles have informed trustees they want to switch providers.
Trustee Vice Chairman James LaPolla said at Wednesday’s meeting he conducted an online survey of residents who have Niles electric service and asked them to submit their bills. Their electric bills were compared to bills from what other Howland residents get for electric service from Ohio Edison.
The survey garnered 73 responses. Bills on average were $140 per month for Niles electric usage during winter time at 11.28 cents per kilowatt hours with a fuel cost adjustment of 0.6 cents per kilowatt hour, and every household has a surcharge of $4.30. ....

The Youngstown band Adrian Labra, guitar and vocals; Cristian Labra, bass and vocals; David Labra, guitar, saxophone and vocals; Danny Svenson, keyboards; and Matt Hayes, drums timed the vinyl release of its debut album, “Colder Weather,” to coincide with Record Store Day 2020 back in April, one of many events disrupted by COVID-19.
The vinyl arrived in April, but the band’s performance at the Record Connection in McKinley Heights was pushed to August and was one of its only shows in 2020.
“We are hopeful that the live music scene / gigging makes a comeback this year,” Adrian Labra said. ” While not playing out has been a bummer, we have been hard at work rehearsing, writing and recording. Several singles and at least one new EP will drop this year.” ....

Julius Pitzman is known for designing most of the famous private streets in St. Louis, starting with Benton Place in Lafayette Square. But he also surveyed large portions of St. Louis, leaving his mark on a wide swath of the city, and not just in exclusive neighborhoods. Pitzman worked on Lafayette Square over the course of several decades, even into the early 20th century. However, much of his surveying and laying out of additional semi-private streets on the south side of the park off Lafayette Avenue has been forgotten. That s due to the devastation caused by the construction of Interstate 44 in the second half of the 20th century. While not true private streets, they maintained restrictions on building types and uses similar to their more restrictive counterparts. ....
