Speeding suspended driver caught on Gladstone roads

A driver with a chequered traffic history was caught driving by Gladstone police despite the fact his licence was suspended for speeding, a court heard.
Phillip Paul Nunns, 45, appeared in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle without driver s licence previous speeding >40km/h.
Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd read the facts of Nunn’s case to the court and Magistrate Bevan Manthey.
About 8.45pm on February 26, Nunns was intercepted driving a car on Dalrymple Dr, Toolooa.
When questioned, Nunns stated he was driving to go to his uncle’s house to see if his uncle could assist him with tyres for his car. ....

A Gladstone mother of two said her son had missed the bus after she was intercepted by police driving without a licence.
Tani Edwina Jo Emery, 32, pleaded guilty to driving of motor vehicle without a driver s licence (repeat offender) on Monday in Gladstone Magistrates Court.
At 8am on February 2, 2021, Calliope Road Policing unit intercepted Emery for the purpose of a licence check.
Checks uncovered Emery had failed to reapply for her learner’s licence after a suspension.
Emery’s duty lawyer Jun Pepito said his client had not reapplied for a learner’s permit because she could not afford the fee or the fitting of the interlock device on her car. ....

A Gladstone man accidentally implicated himself when he made admissions to police he’d been driving despite suspension.
Shaun James Warby pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday to unlicensed driving.
On September 20, police approached a car on Bloomfield St, Miriam Vale which was unoccupied.
Warby exited a toilet block and said he was the driver and was travelling from Gladstone to Bundaberg.
Checks showed his licence was suspended due to demerit points.
Warby told police he thought his licence was current.
At the time he was on a suspended sentence.
Defence lawyer Lauren Townsend said the 37-year-old had a “tragic” upbringing being raised in foster care. ....

Admin issue means 20yo keeps his licence

Brandon Rivers Thompson pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Monday to unlicensed driving.
The court heard that Thompson was stopped by police at Tannum Sands on December 12 for speeding.
Checks showed he was SPER suspended since December 6.
Thompson said he did have a SPER account but he hadn’t made payment because he wasn’t sure “what the go was”.
He said he hadn’t been notified his licence was suspended.
Acting Magistrate John Milburn said it was Thompson’s lucky day as he hadn’t been charged specifically for being SPER suspended which meant he was not required to be disqualified. ....
