City begins upgrading SE area APD substation

But when the city council recently rewrote the $140 million infrastructure plan going to voters in November, it cut $4 million of the $9 million Mayor Tim Keller had proposed for the project. That leaves the second phase – a complete replacement of the existing building and the addition of a large community room and energy efficient systems – up in the air.
“We’re able to totally finish phase 1 and make it usable, and that’s great. But (for) phase 2 we’ll need the entire amount of money whenever it’s available,” Keller said Monday at a news conference touting the project. ....

Shani Harvie has been named into the newly created position of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion coordinator (JEDI Coordinator) for the New Mexico Economic Development Department. Harvie will be responsible for connecting minority-owned businesses and community organizations in underserved communities with economic development programs, resources, and opportunities. Harvie, a graduate from UNM Anderson School of Management, has served as Secretary Alicia J. Keyes’ executive assistant since 2019 and most recently created and delivered a two-part online workshop, Miniseries for Business Owners of Color, with a focus on financing opportunities through small-scale alternative financial institutions and other business resources. Harvie also staffed the Governor’s Council for Racial Justice. ....

NAIOP’s signature award, designed to celebrate the projects that has had the most impact on the physical and economic development environment, was given this year to the University of New Mexico’s Physics & Astronomy Interdisciplinary Science Facility.
The new four-story, 139,000-square-foot research center near Central and Yale will house physics, astronomy and interdisciplinary sciences. The facility includes a number of types of laboratories, classrooms, an interior living room, offices and group spaces.
Amy Coburn, UNM’s university architect and director of planning, design and construction, oversaw the architectural and planning side of the project. ....
