Clare s Law, introduced in 2014, gives people the right to ask their force about any previous domestic violence or offences that mean their partners could pose a risk to them. Home Office guidance states police will aim to complete the inquiries within 35 days. Data released under Freedom of Information laws show that response times to 375 out of 1,609 right to ask requests approved by police in this country in 2020 fell below this target. ....
But Leeway changed all that, said Ms Campbell. Eventually, her abuser was convicted of harassment and breach of a restraining order in April this year. The 24-year-old credits Leeway with the result. Thames Valley Police has been approached for comment. Ms Campbell continued: I was put in touch with the charity by a health visitor who came to my mum s house to check on my son s progress when I arrived in Norfolk. They gave me advice, offered me a place on their power to change programme, made phone calls and dealt with the police for me, helped me with my witness statements, helped me with my housing situation, financial situation and put me in touch with other agencies who aided my recovery. ....

Leeway, which supports abuse victims across Norfolk, had 3,689 people contact its advice and support service between March 23 and August 31 last year compared to just 830 in the same period the previous year. But with the current coronavirus lockdown set to continue, into March at least, bosses of the charity fear there will be even more people needing help. ....
