Expanded, improved McMurry greenhouse gets Earth Day grand opening

The facility is used for “teaching, research and service,” said Dr. Gary Wilson, project director for the Title V grant funding the improvements, a place used by students, faculty and members of the local Big Country Master Gardeners program.
The five-year, $750,000 per year Department of Education grant is specifically designed to strengthen Hispanic-serving institutions, said Wilson, who also is McMurry’s department head for Human Health Science.
The grant, now in its third year, has a goal of building and bolstering new programs for Hispanic students and to find mechanisms to increase their resiliency and retention,” he said. ....

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is expected to arrive in Sacramento on Tuesday. One of the first places to get it is UC Davis Medical Center.
The newly approved vaccine will require an “ultra-cold freezer” for storage. UC Davis Vice Chancellor of Human Health Sciences and CEO David Lubarsky said the hospital is eager to start administering the vaccine. ....

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Rows of tables and socially distanced chairs have already been set up at UC Davis Health in Sacramento as hospital officials expect to receive their first shipment of Pfizer’s emergency-use authorized vaccine as early as Monday.
