Wood County Commission discusses status of dilapidated properties | News, Sports, Jobs

PARKERSBURG The Wood County Commission discussed dilapidated properties on Monday and took action to begin the process of demolishing a couple.
Wood County Compliance Officer Sarah Robinson briefed the commission on properties where action may need to be taken and others where action will be taken to deal with trash and debris.
She was contacted by the Humane Society of Parkersburg after it was called to 3432 Elizabeth Pike in the Mineral Wells area in regard to animals, including chickens, that were roaming the property and inside the house there.
“There was trash all over the place,” Robinson said. ....

Williamstown Council discusses grant for feral cats, future of former school building | News, Sports, Jobs

Williamstown City Council met Tuesday evening to discuss the approval of animal control personnel and matching a grant for stray cat maintenance, as well as the future of the old elementary school property.
All members were present for the meeting, which included newly appointed council member Pat Peters and City Attorney Jessica Myers.
Save a Kitty Feral Cat program representative Kandi Habeb addressed council about a grant from the Two Mauds Foundation, which was established to support animals and matches a local government allocation of funds toward the spaying, neutering and vaccination of feral cats.
“We’ve done over 300 stray cats for the Williamstown area,” Habeb said. “If the city of Williamstown will donate funds … the foundation will match up to $5,000 a year.” ....

Linda A. Hoblitzell, 80, of Parkersburg, died on March 31, 2021, peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar William Gaarder. Raised in Madison, Wisconsin, she graduated from Madison West High School in 1958 then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and went on to receive her BS in Elementary Education from West Virginia University.
She is survived by her loving husband (Paul C. “Hob” Hoblitzell III) of 60 years, 3 children Paul C. “Hobby” Hoblitzell IV (Alexis), Mildred “Missy” Byrne (Andy), and Jodeen Tebay (Harry). She is also survived by her 4 siblings Tom Gaarder (Rhoda), David Gaarder (Diana), Karen Gross, and Nancy Yost; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Hoblitzell, Jr. (in-laws), Gary Gross (Brother-in-law), and Jen Trieloff (nephew). ....
