Fans of boba tea prepare yourselves: A tapioca pearl shortage is on the horizon.
A number of bubble tea shops and suppliers in the Bay Area and across the country are being affected by a dwindling supply of those signature, chewy tapioca pearls that make up boba tea.
And there are varying answers on just how long that shortage will last.
The issue was first highlighted by popular boba brand, Boba Guys, in a social media video they posted late last week. They predicted that boba shops, including their own, will run out of boba in the next couple of weeks.
