Maricopa Flood Control District meeting tonight

The Maricopa Flood Control District will meet at 6 p.m. today to discuss business.

The board will hear the latest developments on the Desert Cedars project. With the City in the process of selling the parcel on the southeast corner of Bowlin Road and John Wayne Parkway, the board will discuss how to approach the project with this change.

Desert Cedars floodplain issue closer to resolution

Some Maricopa residents are required to purchase flood insurance even though they live miles from the nearest wash. But their expensive plight moved closer to ending at the May 6 Maricopa Flood Control District meeting.
The district approved a plan allowing the City of Maricopa – if it approves the project – to raise the land at the corner of Bowlin Road and State Route 347 about 18 inches with compacted fill dirt. ....

The Maricopa Flood Control District is working with City officials to prevent erosion in the city washes caused by residents.
An ordinance banning the release of water pool backwashing, specifically onto the banks of the washes is proposed. As more and more residents drain their pools into the wash, the district is having to foot the repair bill. ....

Flood Control District moves fast on Santa Rosa Wash repairs

As work neared completion on a “repair and replace” maintenance project in the Santa Rosa Wash, David Alley did a walkthrough last week.
The district manager of the Maricopa Flood Control District identified four issues not included in the original scope of work by the contractor, KLP Enterprises, which may have concluded the project as early as Friday.
As a result, the MFCD board of directors had a special meeting on Thursday night on Zoom to hear Alley describe the issues and repairs, and to consider amending the original contract to authorize the additional work. ....
