The Shoreline Unified School District board voted last week to bring Shoreline Acres under its control starting this fall. The move is intended to align the Tomales preschool with the elementary school, boost staff retention by offering employees health insurance and allow for easier access to state funding. While trustees had some questions about the budget, they were ultimately in full support of the proposal, whose cost is covered by tuition, donations and state scholarships.
“It’s been a goal of boards I’ve been sitting on for 20 years to have preschools under the roof of the Shoreline district,” trustee Tim Kehoe said. ....

Bay Area student's struggle with distance learning worsens as schools delay start of in-person instruction

While Eduardo is struggling, Neady is flourishing.
School is going pretty well. I try to make the best of it. One of my biggest motivations right now is college. Colleges are looking at my grades, said Neady, a senior at San Rafael High School.
She sees her brother struggle.
I feel like my brother and me, we are polar opposites. For him, it is hard to do school online. Whatever break they have, he goes to play videogames. That is the only time he has to interact with other kids, explains Neady.
Currently, there are 55 learning hubs in Marin County to assist kids during online learning. They are run by schools, nonprofits or even child care center. But not everyone that needs it is enrolled. ....

African Art Migration: From the Tribe to Museum Walls, a new program examining African influence on modern Western artists such as Picasso, Matisse, and Modigliani will be presented via Zoom 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday March 3, marking the end of this year’s Black History Month, according to a press release from sponsor Norwalk Public Library.
The program, an ArtScapades production, will be presented by longstanding art appreciation teachers Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman, who have held forth at museums and libraries in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Florida. ....
