OHIO celebrates historic Spring 2021 commencement at Peden Stadium Published: May 3, 2021 Author: Story by Jalyn Bolyard, Photos by Ben Siegel, Rich-Joseph Facun, Laura Bilson and Eli Burris Ohio University celebrated the Spring Class of 2021 this past weekend, April 30 – May 2. Graduates were welcomed to participate in person at Peden Stadium or virtually. This weekend was extra special, as it marked the first time a commencement ceremony was ever held in Peden Stadium. Our Graduate commencement ceremony was held on Friday at 9 a.m. to honor both master’s and doctoral degrees. The speaker for this ceremony was Dr. Susan Williams, a professor of anatomy in OHIO’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine who was named the 2020 Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award winner. ....
Goldwater Scholar looks at genetic mutations to learn more about hearing loss Published: April 28, 2021 Author: Staff reports Rich-Joseph Facun/Ohio University 2021 Goldwater Scholar Nicole Hess works in the lab. When Nicole Hess was a freshman at Ohio University, she was looking for a research project that was more human-focused. After discussing with her advisor, Dr. Soichi Tanda, he invited her to join his lab to conduct research on hearing loss. Hess, a Honors Tutorial College junior majoring in biological sciences from Powell, Ohio, was excited to learn more and got to work right away in Tanda’s lab. Hess was recently awarded the Goldwater Scholarship for her research work. ....
First student to complete the OHIO Honors Program graduates this spring Published: April 26, 2021 Author: Staff reports Before Marietta, Ohio, native Madi Moore set foot on Ohio University’s campus as a biochemistry major in the first full cohort of the OHIO Honors Program in fall 2019, she had earned two associate’s degrees. That previous coursework, completed during her last two years of high school through the College Credit Plus program, set Moore on a path to complete her bachelor’s degree at OHIO in only two years, becoming the first OHP graduate. “Being able to take my general chemistry and biology courses early really helped me to develop my interest and find a passion for it,” Moore said. “This just happened to put me ahead at OHIO, and with some careful scheduling, I am managing to complete my degree requirements in two years here.” ....

Duane Nellis prepares for Fall Commencement 2020. Approximately 5,344 students are expected to participate in Ohio University’s Spring Commencement ceremonies starting Friday, April 30 through Sunday, May 2, at Peden Stadium and virtually. The graduate commencement ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, April 30, for both master’s and doctoral degrees. Undergraduate ceremonies will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 4 p.m. Saturday, May 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2. All commencement ceremonies will take place rain or shine in Peden Stadium and are expected to last two and half hours each. The annual Sustainability Awards are given to individuals and organizations nominated by their peers for contributions during the previous academic year. The Faculty Sustainability Award is given to an OHIO faculty member who has made exemplary contributions to their field through sustainability-related teaching, research, scholarship or service.
