Limestone by Amoako Boafo on artnet Auctions

Amoako Boafo was selected to be featured in the Africa Present: INVEST section
Amoako Boafo is a Ghanaian contemporary artist known for his portraits of Black figures typically done on solid color backgrounds. Creating highly textural pieces by choosing to work with his fingers rather than a traditional brush, Boafo has become an international phenomena after being discovered by another art world titan, Kehinde Wiley, via Instagram in 2018. The present work, titled
Limestone in reference to the color of the stone used to create the work through the lithographic process, was published and released by the Mariane Ibrahim Gallery in Chicago and done in partnership with the Parisian printing house, Ibem Paris. Ibem Paris is best known for their traditional printing techniques that have been employed by the use of world renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Joan Miro and Henri Matisee to name a few. This will be the first time a Boafo print has even been offere ....

LAST SEPTEMBER, when Artnet published a sweeping account of the dramatic ascent of Amoako Boafo, whose fingerpainted portraits of Black people had apparently cast a spell over the market, it read like the script of a Hollywood blockbuster. Replete with eye-popping prices, secret deals, greedy collectors and curators, and a ballsy move by Boafo himself to seize control of his own work, the profile laid bare the inner workings of a rapacious art market. It also sharply framed the increasing international hunger for contemporary African portraiture and the surge of pressure it creates for the emerging artists producing this work.  ....

Men's knitwear designs which are wearable works of art

Men’s knitwear designs: wearable works of art?
Men’s knitwear designs: wearable works of art?
These knitwear designs for spring ensure we’re wearing our art on our sleeve
Roll-neck, £2300; trousers, £1150, both by Dior.

There’s long been debate about whether fashion design constitutes art, but for S/S 2021, men’s knitwear creations made a convincing creative argument. A host of brands used clothing as a canvas, interpreting the gestural strokes of figurative portraiture and the globulous bulges of ceramic forms within their folds.
At Dior, Kim Jones was compelled by the emotive and bold brushstrokes of Ghanaian portraitist Amoako Boafo, who had his first solo exhibition at Mariane Ibrahim Gallery in Chicago last autumn. In a tactile and tonal twist, a figure inspired by Boafo’s oil on canvas ‘Yellow Dress’ has been translated into an intarsia motif on a cashmere roll neck. ....
