Birr pharmacist Patrick Mulholland has lent his support the Iconic Newspapers petition to accelerate vaccine roll out via our local and trusted pharmacies.
The roll out is too slow and definitely needs to be sped up, he told the Tribune. Part of the problem is the rate of supply from the big pharmaceutical companies. The supply rate is too slow. The EU should also speed up its approval process for the AstraZeneca vaccine.
What needs to happen are mass vaccinations. The sooner we see that happening the better. They could be done in big town halls. Places like Marian Hall in Birr would be perfect for it. ....

PENNSYLVANIA expands role of pharmacists in COVID-19 vaccine rollout

Pennsylvania is allowing more pharmacists to give the COVID-19 vaccine when it’s available.Gov. Tom Wolf approved a temporary waiver that permits pharmacists licensed by the Department of State to order and administer the coronavirus vaccine without a doctor’s order.Sloan s Pharmacy in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, is expecting a shipment of 100 doses on Friday.The Moderna vials will be stored in a newly purchased freezer.“We re excited. We’re very excited to try to help in any way we can,” owner Tim Zuch said.“As far as administering vaccines, that’s not anything new for us, just a different one that we’ve been having to research and stay on top of,” pharmacist Molly Bell said.Sloan’s will use its first doses to vaccinate employees. The pharmacy has more than 50 workers at its four locations.“I m excited to get it, and I m excited to give it to other people,” Bell said. ....

Pharmacies launch codeword scheme to offer âlifelineâ to domestic abuse victims
The government has teamed up with independent pharmacies and Boots to launch a domestic abuse Ask for ANI codeword scheme.
As of yesterday (14 January), victims of domestic abuse will be able to access much needed support from thousands of pharmacies across the UK, backed by the government.
The Ask for ANI scheme allows those at risk or suffering from abuse to discreetly signal that they need help and access support. By asking for ANI, a trained pharmacy worker will offer a private space where they can understand if the victim needs to speak to the police or would like help to access support services such as a national or local domestic abuse helplines. ....
