Vermonters set new record during Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Vermont Business Magazine Vermonters participated in the nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day this past Saturday, turning in more than 3.5 tons of unused, unwanted and expired medication at over 55 collection sites throughout the state. The 7,165 pounds of collected medication sets a record for Drug Take Back Day in Vermont, exceeding the previous record of 6,734 pounds collected in October 2019.
“As we continue to work to prevent substance misuse in Vermont, we know having unused prescriptions in the medicine cabinets at homes is a risk, which is why Drug Take Back Days and our ongoing collection efforts are so important,” said Governor Phil Scott. “I greatly appreciate the Vermonters who contributed to this successful collection day on Saturday – it will make a difference in our prevention work.” ....

My name is Regann Rutschilling, a final-year pharmacy student working with Family Health Services of Darke County, and I am writing to inform you of their upcoming Drug Take Back Day to be held on April 24, 2021 at Family Health Pharmacy in Greenville, Ohio. At this event, the community members are invited to bring in their unused, expired, or unwanted over-the counter and prescription medications and the staff at Family Health Pharmacy will properly dispose of the medications for them.
Many of us in the community have unused prescriptions, medications that are expired, and over-the-counter medications we no longer need. Proper disposal of the medication avoids accidents, such as poisoning of children and pets or misuse by other individuals. According to the U.S. Poison Control Centers, unintentional ingestion of pain medications are the leading cause of death in young children and over 40 percent of adult poisonings are medication related. EDWARDSVILLE The Madison County Sheriff’s, Coroner’s and State’s Attorney’s office will hold their annual Drug Takeback Day event Saturday, April 24.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Madison County Administration Building in Edwardsville.
The county’s Emergency Management Agency mobile command vehicle will also be present.
“Drugs are a scourge on our neighborhoods and communities,” said State’s Attorney Thomas Haine, “I’m proud to partner with the sheriff and coroner’s offices to host this event and help keep unused prescriptions out of the hands of those who would sell, misuse, or abuse them.” ....
