Mercer Union presents The isthmus Winter 2021 commission featuring artists 
Aleesa Cohene and 
Ame Henderson, in collaboration with writer 
Daniella Sanader and three pairs of dance artists. The artists will work together on collaborative score-making and the co-creation of a shared embodied practice in video, language and movement.

isthmus is a connection; a site forged between places. This collaborative research commission invites artists whose thinking and work are bolstered by peer exchange and participatory forms of knowledge assembly. Presented on the Mercer Union website and using Miro, commissioned projects bridge geographies and temporalities between artists, their collaborators and publics; gathering a multiplicity of voices and artefacts while architecting new connections through virtual workshops, tours, screenings and live conversation. ....

Native Art Department International (NADI) is a collaborative project created by Toronto-based artists Maria Hupfield and Jason Lujan. Bureau of Aesthetics was produced and organized by Mercer Union, Toronto, and is guest curated by Julia Paoli, Director and Curator.
While Hupfield and Lujan both have separate artistic practices, they produce work together under the moniker of Native Art Department International, or NADI. Their multi-disciplinary, cooperative efforts are realized through artwork, exhibitions, and performances in which they often collaborate with fellow artists and cultural producers. Bureau of Aesthetics is the first large-scale exhibition of their work in the U.S., and will include sculpture and video adapted for this venue to address the changing space of the gallery as a site for gathering during the pandemic.  ....

News - New exhibition to open with virtual curator talk

The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum (CEAM) and Flagler College announce the forthcoming exhibition “Bureau of Aesthetics” by Native Art Department International (NADI), a collaborative project by Toronto-based artists Maria Hupfield and Jason Lujan. The exhibition is organized by Mercer Union, a centre for contemporary art, Toronto, and is guest curated by Julia Paoli, Director and Curator. Encompassing sculpture, video and installation, “Bureau of Aesthetics” will open with a virtual talk with Julia Paoli on Friday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m. This event is free and open to the public (virtually) while also part of Flagler College’s Diversity and Inclusion Week with registration to participate required. ....
