GCS Middle And High School Students Set To Return For In-person Instruction

Guilford County Schools’ older students will begin returning to classrooms over the next few weeks.
Middle and high school students will return using a cohort model, with half attending in-person on Monday and Tuesday, and the other half on Thursday and Friday. The remaining days will be used for remote learning.
The process will start with sixth and ninth graders during the week of February 22. ....

CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a gang member Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred that afternoon when agents assigned to the El Centro Station arrested a man for illegally entering the United States.
Agents apprehended the man 29 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry and transported him to the El Centro Sector for immigration and criminal history screening.
Records checks revealed that the man, a
33-year-old illegal Mexican national, was a member of the Sureño gang who had a prior conviction for 8 USC 1326, Re-entry after being Previously Removed. The individual also has arrests/convictions for “Driving while Under the Influence” and “Domestic violence.” ....

Inmate Who Walked Away From Los Angeles Reentry Program Facility Sought

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A 28-year-old convicted burglar who walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program facility in Los Angeles was being sought by authorities this morning.
About 7:30 p.m. Friday, officials determined Miguel A. Chacon had left without authorization and agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation s Office of Correctional Safety were dispatched to locate and apprehend him.
Chacon is Hispanic, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 198 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Chacon was received by CDCR from Los Angeles County on Dec. 29, 2015 to serve nine years for first-degree burglary, a second strike, with an enhancement for prior felony conviction of a serious offense. He was transferred to the MCRP on Nov. 12 and was scheduled to be released to parole in November.   ....

As New Mexico schools got the go-ahead last month from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to resume partial in-person teaching beginning Feb. 8, revised re-entry plans have come before districts for debate. The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education on Wednesday, Feb. 3, postponed a decision about students going back to the classroom after several hours of discussion. Prior to the board meeting, protesters gathered outside the district s headquarters.
At least 100 APS teachers attended a car rally before Wednesday night’s board meeting, calling for the district to not reopen classrooms until Bernalillo County reaches the “green” level for COVID-19 risk and restrictions, or until all staff who want to can get vaccinated a position in-line with that of the Albuquerque Teachers Federation. ....

BARKSDALE, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rocksprings Station arrested a convicted sex offender, Jan. 31.
“The men and women of Del Rio Sector continue to make significant arrests in the protection of our country,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “I’m very proud of the work our agents are doing to ensure predators like this are prosecuted and detained.”
