KUALA LUMPUR: “When is this going to end?” That is the question on the minds of millions of Malaysians across the country, accompanied at times with a heavy sigh.
Just when we thought 2021 would be better than last year, the situation unfortunately turned more tense with the number of Covid-19 cases hovering between 5,000 and 6,500 daily, raising concerns from all parties in finding the right balance between lives and livelihood.
As the cases were increasing, grouses could be heard with calls to close all factories in the manufacturing sector to flatten the curve despite measures by the government to only allow economic sectors involved in essential goods and services to operate. ....

Penang to push for 
Phase Two 
of the NRP


GEORGE TOWN: Penang will seek to be moved into Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) as it has met the three indicators required, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
He said 10.1% of the population in the state had received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine as of Saturday.
“I was informed that the relevant ministries have discussed the ‘transition’ for Penang to be tabled in a special session of the National Security Council (NSC),” he said in a statement yesterday.
The NSC meeting is to be held today.
Under the NRP, the three indicators to move into Phase Two are the number of daily Covid-19 cases, the number of people fully vaccinated and the condition of the healthcare system. ....

GEORGE TOWN, July 3 A decentralised approach that allows individual states to move on the National Recovery Plan (NRP) phases based on the fulfilment of their respective threshold indicators is more pragmatic in balancing the repercussion of public health and economy.
In a statement, Penang Manufacturing Industry Advisory Council deputy chairman, Datuk Seri Lee Kah Choon said this is considering that the Covid-19 situation and progress of the immunisation programme vary across states. ....

GEORGE TOWN: A decentralised approach that allows individual states to move on to the National Recovery Plan (NRP) phases based on the fulfilment of their respective threshold indicators is more pragmatic in balancing the repercussion of public health and economy.
In a statement, Penang Manufacturing Industry Advisory Council deputy chairman, Datuk Seri Lee Kah Choon said this is considering that the Covid-19 situation and progress of the immunisation programme vary across states.
“While our country is speeding up Covid-19 inoculations, a flexible approach in relaxing economic activities based on the respective states’ fulfilment of indicators during the transition period may be more feasible,“ he said. ....
