Oregon reports 539 new cases, one new death
Oregon has reported 539 new cases of COVID-19, and one new death.
A 95-year-old Douglas County woman tested positive July 13 and died July 20 at Mercy Medical Center. Authorities are still determining whether she had underlying medical conditions.
The state’s cumulative COVID-19 case count is now 214,263, and the death toll is 2,834, according to the Oregon Health Authority.
Marion County reported 36 new cases. Polk County reported eight new cases.

Oregon to require medical examiners note when someone dies while homeless


SALEM — In January, Eugene community members gathered to mourn the death of at least 30 unhoused neighbors over the past year.
But no one knows the total count — Lane County has no system for counting how many people die while homeless. The only county in the state of Oregon that does is Multnomah.
But, starting Jan. 1, 2022, the state of Oregon will require medical examiners to include whether a person who died was experiencing homelessness in their report. The hope is that this process will help lawmakers and advocates understand the scope of the sometimes deadly impacts of homelessness.
Senate Bill 850 s chief sponsors were Rep. Wlnsvey Campos, D-Aloha, and Sen. Deb Patterson​, D-Salem,; however, it also saw support from Lane County legislators Sen. James I. Manning Jr., D-Eugene, and Rep. Mary Wilde, D-Eugene, who were both regular sponsors of the bill. Gov. Kate Brown signed the bill on July 23. ....

The Oregon Health Authority reported 539 new cases of coronavirus and one new death Thursday, shortly after health officials addressed the recent spike in COVID-19 activity across the state.
To date, the Oregon Health Authority has identified 214,263 confirmed and presumptive cases of the virus statewide.
Thursday’s new reported death brought the state’s death toll to 2,834 since the pandemic began.
For the past few days, Umatilla and Jackson counties have been leading the state in new confirmed cases of the virus, with 70 and 63 cases respectively. They were followed by the more populated counties of Multnomah (54), Lane (50), Clackamas (44) and Washington (43). ....

There is one new COVID-19 related death in Oregon, raising the state’s death toll to 2,834.
Oregon Health Authority reported 539 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total to 214,263.
The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across Oregon is 169, which is 18 more than Wednesday. There are 39 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, which is two more than Wednesday.
