Local health director warns of rising COVID cases locally COVID-19 cases in Jackson and Madison County are on the rise again. Weekly e-mails updating the latest virus numbers in Madison County jumped from 22 new cases for the week on July 14 to 77 this past Wednesday. Jackson-Madison County General Hospital’s COVID-19 case count went from five total people in the hospital for the virus on July 12 to 19 on July 21. It’s enough of an increase to classify as a spike, and it’s enough of a spike to warrant discussions inside the Jackson-Madison County Health Department about possibly increasing the frequency of their e-mail updates. ....
Clinics, health department see fewer people for COVID-19 vaccine June 14, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn. Health clinics across West Tennessee are seeing fewer people getting COVID-19 vaccinations. “Currently, it’s significantly lower than it was a few months ago or even a few weeks ago. We went from doing several thousand a week to just less than hundred a week,” said Jay Phipps, the owner of Phipps Pharmacy. According to the Tennessee Department of Health, only 35% of people statewide are fully vaccinated and only 40% of people have at least one dose. Charles McNatt, a pharmacist at City Drug of Henderson, says they are running into the same situation. ....
Health officials to make changes for COVID-19 updates June 9, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn–Health officials are now making changes regarding COVID-19 case count updates and more. Since the first COVID-19 case in March of 2020, the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health department has given daily COVID case count updates. Fast forward to now, public information officer Mallory Cooke says with cases decreasing and vaccinations taking place, there are going to being some changes with COVID-19 updates. “We’re really excited about the fact that we’re seeing a lot fewer cases, so moving forward we’re now going to be providing weekly updates those will happen every Wednesday at 10 a.m.”, said Cooke. ....
WBBJ TV May 17, 2021 Officials with the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department shared their thoughts. “Individuals who are fully vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks or physically social distance whenever they’re out and about and around people, so that means if you’re meeting friends or you’re at work or if you’re in a crowded place, you no longer have to wear a mask,” said Mallory Cooke, Public Information Officer for the health department. Cooke says to keep in mind this guideline change does not apply everywhere. “The CDC says you don’t have to wear a mask, but if it’s required by law or ordinance or a business wants you to wear a mask, they do have that right,” she said. ....
