Clarksville PD: Vehicle recovered from river, victim identified

The Clarksville Police Department, thanks to the help of multiple other agencies, recovered the body of a teenager from the Cumberland River Sunday.
As previously reported, the vehicle had gone off the roadway in the area of Riverside Drive and West Washington Street and went into the river just north of the RJ Corman Bridge. Clarksville Police Traffic Unit, Clarksville Fire Rescue, Montgomery County Rescue Squad, Montgomery County EMS, Montgomery County EMA, Clarksville Street Department and the U.S. Coast Guard assisted in the recovery of the driver and the vehicle that crashed into the river in December 22. ....

Update, 5:40 p.m.: The family issued the following statement to Clarksville Now, including a plea for information about the wreck.
“We are extremely heartbroken and puzzled to learn this news. Jasonah was a sweet, loving, intelligent young woman. She was so excited about her first year at APSU. Jasonah is from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and graduated from LaVergne High School near Nashville. She was studying to become a pediatric nurse. If anyone has any details pertaining to events leading up to the accident, please let us know.”

Crews search for vehicle that crashed into Cumberland River

Update: Crews called off the search at about 10:30 p.m. and planned to resume in the morning.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Rescue crews were searching for a vehicle that reportedly crashed into the Cumberland River on Tuesday night.
At 9:30 p.m., Clarksville Police, Clarksville Fire Rescue, Montgomery County Rescue Squad, and Montgomery County EMS were on the scene where witnesses reported seeing a vehicle leave the roadway and enter the Cumberland River near Riverside Drive and West Washington Street, just north of the RJ Corman Bridge.
There is an active search of the river in that area. No further information was available. ....

Update, 1:20 p.m.: Strong currents in the Cumberland River and cold weather are making conditions too dangerous for divers to continue recovery attempts for now, according to EMA Director Ed Baggett.
“We think we probably have found the vehicle. We’re not positive, but we’re pretty sure we’re in the right location,” Baggett told Clarksville Now.
“Right now we’re waiting on the current of the river. If we can get the current slowed down – but of course the dams are wide open. We’re waiting for them to shut the dams down so the current will slow,” he said. ....
