The Town of Marion is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Town’s Conservation Agent on a part-time basis (19 hours per week).
Applicants must have working knowledge of statutes and regulations applicable to the jurisdiction of Conservation Commission, the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and associated regulations and policies, relevant areas of wetlands science, coastal resource protection, vegetation functions and values, wetland replication, and wetland boundary identification/verification.
Work schedule is largely during business hours, but includes regular evening meetings and some weekend morning field work and site visits.
Recommended minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field and a minimum of two years’ experience in wetlands protection, land conservation, environmental management or related field, or equivalent c ....

The story of a South Dartmouth family vs. the Commonwealth of Massachusetts left many wondering why the government could dictate what they could and could not do on their private property, potentially costing tens of thousands of dollars in fines for violations.
In the case of South Dartmouth’s Allen Neck Road, the residential property and a significant area around the home was designated by the Priority Habitat for the marbled salamander, which is listed as a threatened species under the state of Massachusetts. The disturbance of a marbled salamander s habitat is a violation of the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act, the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, and the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act. Violations against any of the above three Acts are subject to large civil penalties, some as high as $25,000 per day. ....

On Thursday, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey joined a coalition of 15 attorneys general challenging President Donald J. Trump and his administration over the rollback of the federal Clean Water Act.
“This reckless regulation ignores common-sense and undisputable scientific evidence showing that this rollback will seriously degrade water quality in Massachusetts and across the country,” said Healey. “It will make it harder for states like ours to protect the water we drink and to preserve the health of the streams and wetlands that we rely on for recreation, agriculture, and wildlife habitats. We are urging the court to vacate this dangerous regulation.” ....
