Speaking at the annual Associated Industries of Massachusetts conference, held virtually on Friday, Sec. of Commerce Gina Raimondo promised President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan will be “nothing but a win for Massachusetts.”
The former governor of Rhode Island used much of her speaking portion and every one of her answers to questions to highlight the benefits of Biden’s $2.3 trillion infrastructure bill.
“Being your neighbor in Rhode Island, I’m quite familiar with Massachusetts’ economy and the companies and sectors in which you thrive,” Raimondo said. “And I can confidently say that the American Jobs Plan will be very good for businesses in all sectors in Massachusetts.” ....

Brockton business owner Fred Fontaine gets Black Excellence Award


BROCKTON  A business owner known for service in the community was awarded for Black excellence from the Statehouse.
Fred Fontaine, a Brockton resident who owns several businesses in the city, received the Black Excellence on the Hill Award from the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus.
It was really surprising, he said,  but I was happy to receive it on behalf of everyone who s working to make a better community.  
Fontaine was nominated by Rep. Claire Cronin, a Democrat whose district includes Brockton and Easton, to receive the honor. It was announced during the caucus s Black Excellence on the Hill event last month, Black History Month, recognizing leaders across the state for work in fields like business, civic engagement and education.  ....

For as long as she can remember, Kiana Pierre-Louis ’99 wanted to be a lawyer. As a young girl, her role models included Thurgood Marshall and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Supreme Court justices whose commitment to racial and gender equity impressed and inspired her. “Even as a child,” the senior lecturer of Law explains, “I understood that the legal system was a place where you could make a difference.”  
Today, Pierre-Louis is following in the footsteps of her gavel-bearing idols, making a difference both in and outside the classroom as an advocate for equity. 
In addition to highlighting social injustices through courses like Race and the Law and Social Justice Law, Pierre-Louis facilitates diversity and inclusion workshops for the Center for Women and Business. She’s also a Core Team member of the university’s Racial Justice Task Force, which formed in June to explore ways to create a more e ....
