$46.2 billion fiscal year 2021 budget (H 5164)
The House, 147 to 10, and the Senate, 40 to 0, approved and sent to Gov. Charlie Baker a compromise version of a $46.2 billion fiscal year 2021 state budget for the fiscal year that began July 1. The state has been operating on temporary budgets approved by the Legislature. The package includes using $1.7 billion from the state’s Rainy Day Fund $350 million more than Baker recommended. That withdrawal leaves the fund with about $1.8 billion. ....

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. A decade ago, former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown held his hand over a duct-taped original 1955 window in the police station to feel the cold draft coming through. 
 
 
So are the water-stained ceilings, cramped quarters, missing and crumbling tiles, one frightening bathroom, broken cells, mildewed carpets and outdated heating system. 
 
The deficiencies of the 66-year-old public safety building are well documented. Tours of the building over the years by the public safety commissioner and later the police and fire chiefs have pointed out the urgent need for a new building.  ....

The House, 145 to 9, and the Senate, 38 to 2, approved and sent to Gov. Charlie Baker a 57-page climate change bill. A key section makes the state’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal net zero by 2050.
“This bill steps up the pace of our collective drive to contain climate change,” said Sen. Mike Barrett, D-Lexington, Senate Chair of the Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy. “It’s the strongest effort of its kind in the country. With the tools the Legislature assembles here, we’re constructing the response we need and providing a blueprint to other states.” ....
