Two demonstrations protesting police brutality were organized in Boston on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the federal holiday honoring the civil rights icon’s life and accomplishments.
One of the protests, organized by Mass Action Against Police Brutality, was expected to start at 1 p.m. Monday near the Grove Hall branch of the Boston Public Library on Geneva Avenue in Dorchester, according to the event’s Facebook page. ....

Demonstrators marched through Boston on Jan. 18, 2021, in a rally against police brutality.
Demonstrators rallied in Boston on Monday to call for an end to police violence across the United States, as the country celebrated the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
About 100 people marched from the Grove Hall Library to Madison Park High School, as the protesters called on Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins to reopen all of the deadly police brutality cases that happened in Boston.Sign up for our Newsletters
“We’re getting killed by the pandemic, police brutality and racism, and our PPE is protest,” said Brock Sutter, of Mass Action Against Police Brutality. “It’s the only thing that will give us any safeguard for our rights going forward, so we need to defend them. We need to exercise our rights, and that’s why we’re out here.” ....

As Boston and the nation recognized Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday Monday, activist Monica Cannon Grant urged a crowd of 200 people to do more than post a quote on social media.
“I know everybody felt real good about their post and their quotes this morning,” Cannon-Grant said, standing on a truck bed outside the Madison Park High School in Roxbury. “But the truth is, society didn’t like Martin Luther King, he had a 66 percent disapproval rating. When he died, nobody gave a damn, and they ll do the same thing to all of us activists.” ....

Several people bowed their heads as Martin Luther King Jr.’s voice echoed across the plaza in front of Faneuil Hall on Sunday evening.
