CORPUS CHRSITI, Texas â Del Mar College has a goal of raising $90,000 this year for âBernieâs Spring Bash.â The money raised will benefit six academic programs, as well as the schoolâs Student Emergency Aid program.
The event, named for the late local philanthropist Bernie Paulson, is typically a crawfish boil fundraiser. However, due to COVID-19, the last two years the fundraiser has been exclusively online.
âLast year we innovated, just like everybody. We still had our âBernieâs Spring Bash,â is how we called it. City University of New York Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez has followed through on increasing faculty diversity. Nine new college presidents – including two Asian Americans, three African Americans and three women – were appointed in the past year. Early on in the COVID-19 pandemic, CUNY established the Chancellor’s Emergency Relief Fund with $1 million each from the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation and the James and Judith K. Dimon Foundation. This grew to more than $8 million by the fall and allowed CUNY to distribute emergency grants to more than 10,000 students.

New funding supports students in need
PIQUA The Edison Foundation has joined together with Edison State Community College to provide funding for student emergency needs. After a yearlong study, The Edison Foundation Board of Directors approved the Student Emergency Assistance Fund formation in June 2020, along with budgeting $5,000 for FY21 as startup funding. The newly formed fund is a critical lifeline of support that provides immediate aid to students threatened due to unforeseen circumstances.
The Student Emergency Assistance Fund is available to students currently enrolled at Edison State who have emergency needs beyond academics. Needs, which if left unaddressed, would significantly compromise their ability to finish the semester. A student may request expenses totaling up to but not exceeding $500 to be covered once per academic year for the following eligible costs: childcare, food/meals, gas, housing/rent, medical/dental expenses, personal automobile expenses, public tra
