Student arrested with gun on school grounds


A 16-year-old was arrested at Central High School Friday after being found with a handgun by school officials. 
The student, a male, was said to be involved in a verbal altercation with school officials in the school parking lot, according to a press release from the Mesa County Sheriff s Office. School officials resolved the incident, according to the release, and then searched the student at which point they found a handgun and called the sheriff s office. 
The gun was not fired and deputies are calling this an isolated incident. The juvenile is being held at the Division of Youth Services on charges that include possession of a concealed handgun on school grounds. ....

District warns of virus exposure


Teton County School District No. 1 advised Munger Mountain Elementary School families on Friday that students who rode Bus 17 in the morning or afternoon this past week may have been exposed to a COVID-19-positive individual.
“Due to the large number of students this may impact, it is being sent to the entire school,” Principal Scott Eastman said in an email. “Please disregard if your student did not ride Bus 17 this week.”
A possible exposure does not mean a child will contract the coronavirus, but parents and guardians should monitor for symptoms. Because masks were worn “appropriately” at the time of the exposure, May 17 to 20, students who rode the bus can continue to come to school, and other members of the household don’t have to limit their activities. ....

Two LaGrange County students named Questa scholars


FORT WAYNE — Two LaGrange County high school students have been named Questa Traditional Scholar recipients. They join more than 70 new scholars in Northeast Indiana and more than 300 scholars currently receiving funding for their college degrees.
The pair will graduate from high school this spring and enter college this fall as freshmen. They are Hannah Martin of Westview who will attend Indiana University at Kokomo and Ella Thompson of Prairie Heights who will attend the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne. Both are pursuing degrees in nursing, and each has plans to give back their talents to the Northeast Indiana workforce after completing their degrees. ....
