MIT welcomes six new assistant deans for diversity, equity, and inclusion

As an important step forward in MIT’s ongoing efforts to create a more welcoming and inclusive community, the Institute has hired six new assistant deans, one in each school and in the MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing, to serve as diversity, equity, and inclusion professionals.
Set to be in place by the fall of 2021, these new positions are a result of the February 2020 recommendations of the MIT working groups charged with implementing the findings of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s (NASEM) report on sexual and gender harassment of women in academia. Together, these reports called for “a network of support, advocacy, and community-building expertise across campus to improve our community culture.” MIT President L. Local high school and college graduations taking place this month


In-person graduations for local high schools and colleges are taking place in the coming weeks with spaced out graduation times and limited capacity at some ceremonies.
Texas A&M University-Central Texas will be holding graduation at 10 a.m. Saturday in Warrior Hall for the College of Education and Human Development. The College of Arts and Sciences graduation will begin at 11 a.m. and the College of Business Administration graduation will begin at 1 p.m.

Center for Civic Engagement holds Service, Learning and Leadership Recognition Celebration
Neither masks, nor distance, nor pandemic protocols would stop Norwich University’s volunteerism in 2020-21. Center for Civic Engagement Director Nicole DiDomenico said students’ perseverance showed gracious selflessness, and progress showed in April 15’s online meeting to celebrate it.
Spring 2020’s sudden campus shutdown to flatten the coronavirus infection curve scrubbed the Service, Learning and Leadership Recognition Celebration, a traditional in-person fete-and-feast. DiDomenico said she had neither time to plan nor enough digital experience to mount a virtual event.
But this year, DiDomenico and Assistant Director Abigail Joyal ’18, were ready. They honored 2021’s Civic Scholars students who received scholarship aid for 500 hours of service over four years and three students for honors earned in 2020. ....
