UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Six incumbent trustees and five new members were elected or appointed to serve on the Penn State Board of Trustees today (May 7).
University alumni elected Alvin de Levie and Steve Wagman as alumni trustees, and re-elected incumbent Brandon Short. Delegates of agricultural societies elected Donald Cairns and re-elected incumbent Chris Hoffman. 
Robert Fenza and Mary Lee Schneider were re-elected as trustees representing business and industry. Julie Anna Potts was re-elected as an at-large trustee, while Nicholas Rowland was elected as the board’s academic trustee.  ....

Justice Education Week at Penn State offers wide variety of events April 19-24

The Restorative Justice Initiative (RJI) is a group of Penn State students, faculty, staff and community stakeholders committed to empowering and supporting system-impacted, currently and formerly incarcerated individuals through education and meaningful engagement in civic life, according to Efraín Marimon, assistant professor of education and director of the Restorative Justice Initiative as well as the Social Justice Fellowship. 
“We believe in the power of trauma-informed practice, liberatory pedagogy and transformative education, and are dedicated to leveraging Penn State’s size, scope, reach and resources to help make education accessible to all sectors of society,” Marimon said.

Penn State to host discussions, film screenings for Justice Education Week


From April 19-24, Justice Education Week will be held at Penn State. The week will feature a series of virtual events with the aim of bringing awareness to the human impact of incarceration as well as build support for transformative educational movements in a carceral setting, according to Penn State News.
Here is a list of events that will be held for Justice Education Week.
Monday, April 19
6 p.m. — Angela Davis, political activist and the keynote speaker of the week, will host a talk titled Education Justice: Incarceration, Carceral Education & Abolition Pedagogy. 3/20 Coalition hosts virtual discussion on race, criminalization as part of its '10 Days of Action' series


3/20 Coalition hosted a virtual panel titled Race and Criminalization: Virtual Panel Tuesday night to continue its 10 Days of Action series in commemoration of the two year anniversary of the death of Osaze Osagie.
Osagie was a 29-year-old Black State College resident who had autism and a history of schizophrenia. He was shot and killed by State College Police officers on March 20, 2019.
When three officers arrived at Osagie’s apartment to serve a mental health warrant, Osagie allegedly ran at the officers with a knife. After an unsuccessful attempt to use a Taser on him, Officer M. Jordan Pieniazek allegedly shot him. ....

Local Activist Divine Lipscomb Announces Candidacy for State College Borough Council


State College resident Divine Lipscomb announced that he is seeking election to borough council this year.
“For our communities to be a place where everyone can thrive, we cannot let the richest 1% and the politicians they pay for continue to exploit divisions among us based on what we look like, where we come from, or how much money we have,” Lipscomb said in a statement.
Lipscomb, an adult learner Penn State student who works in advocacy for supporting the reentry of formerly incarcerated individuals, added that he believes it is important for residents who live below the poverty line to have representation on council. ....
